How to Convert an Image to Minecraft Blocks
The hard part is not uploading the image. The hard part is picking a size and palette that will still look good after it becomes Minecraft blocks.
Choose the right size first
Small logos can work at 32x32 or 64x64. Faces, detailed avatars, and posters usually need 128x128 or more. Bigger is clearer, but every size increase multiplies the block count.
Pick a palette you can actually build
Concrete gives strong colors, wool gives softer colors, and terracotta gives muted earthy tones. If you are building in survival, use a survival-only palette so the material list stays realistic.
Use dithering carefully
Light dithering can make gradients smoother, especially in photos. Strong dithering can add texture but may look noisy in logos or text. Always compare no dithering against light dithering before collecting materials.
FAQ
Quick answers
What image format should I upload?
PNG, JPG, and WebP are good browser-friendly choices. PNG is best for logos with transparency.
Does the image need to be square?
The v1.1 GlobalPlay tool converts into square build sizes. Crop the source image first if composition matters.
Can I export commands?
Yes. The Pixel Art Generator can export .mcfunction setblock commands for a flat vertical build plane.
